We know that women care about the impact of their money. Whether it’s pensions, savings or investments, studies have shown that many women want to put their money to work for a fair and healthy planet. However, at the same time, women remain underrepresented in and underserved by the financial system, resulting in significant gender pension, investment and financial literacy gaps. Addressing these gaps therefore offers an opportunity to not only support the financial resilience of women, but also protect our planet.
On 2 March, the Lab partnered with Friends of the Earth to showcase Own It – their new initiative harnessing the power of peer-learning to make it simpler for women to use their money to take climate action. Read more about why they launched this project here and its impact so far here.
Kindly supported by CCLA Investment Management, this event offered guests an opportunity to learn how their financial choices can fight climate change, plus try out some tools and techniques to support women to build an understanding of their relationship with money and generate ideas for action. This event was held as part of the Lab’s Women in Financial Innovation network – a community of women working on financial systems change that we have convened since 2018.
