The financial system is changing as a result of the COVID-19 crisis – with policymakers taking unprecedented action and using the finance sector to keep businesses afloat, social distancing turbo-boosting the shift to digital banking and a debt ‘tsunami’ looming.
In this new, fast-changing context, collaboration to help transform finance for the better has a renewed urgency. On 23 July we convened the Transforming Finance Network – the network of civil society organisations campaigning on finance that we have coordinated with Positive Money since 2013. Together, we developed knowledge about how the policy responses to COVID-19 have affected and are changing the financial system and started to build a shared analysis about what this means for the context in which transforming finance advocates are working.
We welcomed contributions from:
- Christine Berry
- Laurie MacFarlane – UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose
- Simon Youel – Positive Money
- Eva Watkinson – Jubilee Debt Campaign
