In December 2020, The Lab published a discussion paper, written by Dr Gemma Bone Dodds, providing an overview of the purpose-driven banking ecosystem in the UK. From this and the subsequent work that the lab has done, it is clear that the headline barriers to growth that purpose-driven finance institutions face are around regulation, capital, public awareness and the mental models that keep the current mainstream where it is.
In this workshop event, facilitated by Sam Rex-Edwards and Kay Polley, participants had the opportunity to discuss and build on this work. Sam and Kay shared their reflections on the conversations they held in autumn 2021 and convened a conversation about how the sectors within purpose-driven finance can collaborate to build their power in order to tackle these barriers. There was also an opportunity to start to look at regulation and the potential for developing a strategic campaign.
